The International Turfgrass Genetic Assurance Program (ITGAP) is a quality assurance program that monitors production sites worldwide to ensure that turfgrasses are grown, inspected, and sold under a rigorous set of rules and guidelines. We all know that certified turfgrasses are proven performers. ITGAP protects the purity of those grasses against contamination, weeds, and other crops during production. The result is:
1. high quality,
2. consistency of performance, and
3. confidence in your golf course, for the long term.
ITGAP was championed by Dr. Earl Elsner, John Hope, and Terry Hollifield in 2000 and instituted by the Georgia Crop Improvement Association.
A message from Mr Terry Hollifield
The International Turfgrass Genetic Assurance Program (ITGAP) is pleased to announce that AusGAP (Australia Genetic Assured Purity Turf Accreditation Program) is now an exclusive agent for ITGAP and will administer ITGAP standards in Australia and the region. AusGAP is committed to improving genetic purity of certain turf grass varieties being produced in the region. ITGAP, prior to working with Lawn Solutions Australia had 15 producers in 9 countries and was developed to aid in the propagation and worldwide distributions of turf grasses while maintaining variety identity, purity and freedom for other crops and perennial grasses. To achieve this goal, AusGAP will inspect production farms and apply ITGAP standards.
Mr. Max Stephenson, who has been associated with ITGAP for the last 15 years and has conducted inspections in Thailand, Indonesia, Fiji and Tahiti, has been appointed as the ITGAP approved inspector for AusGAP. Max will work closely with both organisations conducting field inspections and ensuring compliance with the standards.
