AusGAP policies and processes guarantee turfgrass purity, and AusGAP clients are some of the best growers in Australia, working hard to uphold our stringent set of standards. The annual AusGAP award is given to an AusGAP client that is consistently going above and beyond with compliance and policies that we stipulate. This year AusGAP have the pleasure of announcing the winner as Active Turf from Sydney, NSW.
To remain AusGAP compliant clients must lodge quarterly self-inspection reports, pre-planting forms and follow many other processes and polices. Active Turf are consistently the first or very close to first in line. Their prompt replies, eagerness to provide additional information, and complete rectifications after AusGAP inspections makes them tough to beat. They are always engaged and participate in all AusGAP training, webinars, and requests without any issues.
The final reason – the cherry on top – was on each visit, Active Turf meet set compliance standards, and the overall quality of their turf is consistently excellent, especially their TifTuf on our Program Managers Mick Sutton’s last visit.
We asked them that it meant to them to receive this award, and this is what Charlie Muscat had to say:
“Active Turf were overwhelmed with gratitude to have been selected to receive the AusGAP Award for 2021. We are so honoured to have all our hard work recognised in this way by AusGAP. Many hours go into this small family run business, and it means so much to us to have the work that we are all so passionate about acknowledged.
Anne, my father, and I started our small turf business in 1999 with only 5 acres of turf, not knowing where we were heading. With my father retiring in – 2004, we were lucky enough to raise a son, Troy, that shares our passion in working on the land and was surprised to learn that he is more passionate about it than we could have imagined. Even more to our surprise, Troy has found and married someone to share that passion with. Vanessa has been happily learning and keen to be more involved with business as the days go by.
We are very proud to be a part of AusGAP. Being a part of the group helps to give customers assurance in buying our product, which they are confident has been grown under the guidelines of the best Australian turf accreditation program.
Currently, we are growing around 75 acres, this award is very special to us at Active Turf. Although we are not one of the largest suppliers we pride ourselves in knowing that every roll of turf that leaves our gates has been taken good care of and grown to our best possible ability.”
